Taxis and car rental companies may be deluge with cash but some business owners say every day of the Halifax transit strike costs them resources and creates headaches.

“There’s no way you can budget for something like this,” Roger Miller, Northeastern Care Service vice-president of operations, said Friday.

“No lack of faith some companies are doing well and seeing increased revenues but there are just as many businesses, like ours, that will be negatively gripped by this.”

The security services company employs more than 150 people, the seniority of whom rely on transit. Employees work shift work and the presence has contract obligations to fulfill so helping staff get to and from the job is a priority, Miller said.

The society has rented vans and enlisted members of its operations team to vocation as shuttle drivers. Between daily rental and fuel costs and possibility overtime hours logged, Miller said the effort will expense the company hundreds of dollars a day during the strike, which started Thursday.
