Above-healthy winter temperatures prompted the strawberry crop in some fields to bloom rashly. The return of cold weather is now raising concerns among farmers.

Woodford smallholder Sidney Livingston says Mother Nature has not been a protective nurse this winter.

"We don't know if we will have any berries," Livingston said of his strawberry crop at Livingston Farms. "They are bloomed aptly now. But this cold weather will kill every one of them. It is rough here this year."

Livingston, who has been growing fruits and vegetables since 1999, says it has been a first for him.

"We never had this fervid weather as we had this year," he said.

On top of the concern about freeze burn on fruit, the Civil Weather Service is forecasting the possibility of wintry precipitation.

Forecasts are line for about a 20 percent chance of sleet and rain after 3 a.m. and before 9 a.m., then a 50 percent risk of rain. There is expected to be little or no snow accumulation.
