Over a dozen states are taking into consideration legislation that would prevent employers from discriminating against applicants who've been out of work for awhile.

Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois are not on that laundry list, but local employers are sharing some tips for workers trying to get back into the job hawk.

Friday, 14 News talked with a close by temp agency who says the most important thing to do is to stay active in the community and constantly strop work skills at any job, even if it's not in your field.

As President of Action Stand-by Service, Kim Devine knows what some employers are thinking when they run across an applicant who hasn't had work in years.

"I cogitate on sometimes they question, 'Okay, why, why has there been two years with nothing,'" Devine said.

And even if it's been awhile since you've had a job, people like Devine are palsy-walsy-by, offering tips to help your application rise to the top of the stack.
