The proprietress of a Des Moines-based employment agency was sentenced Friday to 57 months in detention after pleading guilty last fall to creating a scheme to sidestep paying $778,940 in workers compensation premiums.

Dinesh Sethi, possessor of DES Staffing Services was also ordered to pay restitution of 778,940 and to serve a five-year-span of time of supervised release following his release from prison.

The sentencing in U.S. Precinct Court provided an ironic ending to what had started out as an stealing case against one of Sethi’s employees.

DES Staffing is based in Des Moines and has offices in eight states.

Sethi’s problems began in 2009 when he accused an staff member, Randy Stringer, of embezzling more than $1 million from two businesses that Sethi owned, DES Staffing and Des Moines Spry Cash, a check cashing and quick loan business.

Stringer pleaded shame-faced in February 2010 and was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Stringer turned on his former boss and began supplying the FBI with documentation of how Sethi had acclimatized illegal methods to lower the workers compensation premiums paid by his businesses to Travelers and Presumption Mutual insurance companies.

The Agency Workers Directive - Changing the way we work ...

Many people balance unsuspecting of the latent weight of the Agency Workers Directive (AWD) which will be introduced into European Legislation in October 2011.
