Two mailboxes outside and a wee sign on the door are the only hints that a full-service post office is tucked in the basement of a relatives home in South Versailles.

It is -- for a community that doesn't welcome home delivery -- a daily destination for many people in the burgh, and not just so they can pick up their mail and buy stamps and send packages.

"It's a job where people come. They talk. They meet other people here," said Thelma Householder, 62.

She lives in the community and has worked at the Coulters Task Office since 2004, but today, she wasn't working. She was perfectly there to pick up her mail and chat with Priscilla Byzon, the officer in concern of the post office and its only full-time employee.

"It's just a classify," Ms. Householder said as she departed with her mail. "It's a place to be."

For the period to come, it will remain a place to be, just not as often.
