We at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK from here on out) today are dependent upon contingent workforce for most of the employment and services and a fat amount of such business has been contracted out. Today the campus, where near to 10,000 of us industry and sojourn, is almost totally dependent on commitment workers, whether for cleaning, horticulture, sanctuary, messing, polite & electrical support, construction, laying cables, inspection benefit, the slate can go on. By principled estimates, as the establish has no system to keep consolidated records of such workers, the contingent workforce can be as violent as 3000 [1] . Confirmed such a stocky workforce and acknowledged the factors that they line without any framework of rights and responsibilities, we keep hearing of inconsistent hiring and firings, accidents, grievances, signature campaigns, purpose orders, reports, and so on relating to the contingent workforce, and yet we do not seem to be any closer to addressing the ‘conundrum’.
