I'm considering relocating to USA, New York to be exact. Is New York all its cranked up to be in the media?

Ok, so America is rumour has it the best country in the to live in right? And where i live, the media almost portrays new york city as the zeneth of all city living. But say i upon to relocate to New york, will it be difficult for me to make new friends?
Yes, able place, friendly (but take into account that the population is very busy and densely jammed)and interesting 24/7. It is easy to make friends once you start working and get tortuous in the city and life.
